Healthy lifestyle choices when living with incontinence

Living life to the full means not missing out on the good stuff. However, there are certain types of drinks and foods that irritate the bladder and increase the risk of urine leakage, for example, coffee, alcohol and acidic foods such as citrus fruit.

We’re not suggesting that you should totally stop from hanging out by the coffee machine or joining your friends at the bar, but it could be beneficial to be conscious about the effects these treats have on your bladder.

Here’s what you can think about when it comes to drinking:
  • Not drinking enough water can cause your bladder to stop working properly. It’s recommended to drink at least six glasses a day to stay hydrated.
  • Alcohol and caffeinated drinks are diuretics that contribute to frequent urination and leakage.
